January, 27 - 29: En Route to Africa: London Stop Over

Vicki at the totally recognizable Big Ben.
Grey, rainy and 40 degrees all day.

Tom in Westminster Abbey.
Beautiful and interesting in every
way possible!
!
Tom, Buckingham Palace.  Her Majesty
was in residence, but napping
at the time we paid our call.
Vick at the memorial of her namesake,
Queen Victoria

St. James Park with Pelicans, Swans, Pintails,
Mallard, and numerous other wonderful Ducks I still
need to identify.  Oh yes, and Buckingham Palace
in the background.

Jan. 30 - 31: Arusha, Tanzania

Lake Duluti Serena Lodge. Separate abodes, dining room,
business center and boutique.

Staff is excellent.  Each meal had a fresh buffet
for salads and fruit as well as a menu.

Our hut overlooked the lake.  Lots of beautiful birds
and a few monkeys with babies along for the ride.

Plantains

Feb. 1: Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, 1st day

are still working may want to print a
picture of this bird for their work area)

Coke's Hartebeest

Female giraffes have fur on the ends of the
nobs on their head (as this one does).  Males
wear their knob fur off sparing with other males.

Black-faced Vervet Monkey

Zebra

Young male lion

Typical activity for lions during the day

Vervet Monkey and Baby

Feb. 3: Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

Superb Starling - even more beautiful when
it flies away from you !

The ever popular Warthog.

One of our pop top vehicles with a
view of Tarangire Hill in the background.

Baby Elephants who can walk under their
mothers, as this one is doing, are judged to be
about one month old.

In the center of the picture, perched on
a slanted rock is a Klipspringer, one of
Africa's smallest antelopes.

Blue Monkey.  Not as cute as a Vervet Black-faced
Monkey, but cuter than a Baboon.
Candelabra Tree
Impala

Lions typically do not sleep in trees, but we saw
several.  This young lion's position is pretty crazy.

Lake Manyara Serena Lodge was a favorite.
Each round building had two rooms upstairs,
and two rooms at ground level.

Feb. 4: Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, 1st day

The view as we descend into Ngorongoro Crater.

Maasai Tribe family settlement seen on the way
to the crater.  The Maasai are allowed to live on the
crater rim and graze their cattle and goats.

Sweet

Male Eland with a Bateleur (short-tailed eagle)
flying towards him

Beautiful bougainvillea photo taken outside
the crater.

White (European) Storks

Blacksmith Lapwing (Plover)

Sacred Ibis

Hippo lookin' at ya.

Kori Bustard staking out his territory
to attract a mate.

A Kori in full, proud display,
waiting for the "right one" to notice.

We are in love with Grey Crowned Cranes .
So elegant...

Elephant, Wildebeest, Zebra grazing together.

Spotted Hyena

Grey Crowned Cranes.  We took
many photos of these birds!

Sweet baby Thompson's Gazelle in a field of daisies.

We first saw this Rhino too far away for a photo.
We returned later to check on
him and were rewarded with this reflection photo.

Vicki at the crater entry as we check-out
for the day with the gate agent.
